Wednesday’s Antigo City Council meeting will begin with the ceremonial changing of the guard at the Antigo Police Department.
Retiring Public Safety Director and Police Chief Eric Roller will be presented with a service weapon, and Capt. Dan Duley will be sworn in as the new police chief.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
Dillon West will also be brought on as a new officer with the department.
According to a consent agenda resolution, the city will sponsor West through the 19-week police academy, with the state paying the academy costs and the city paying the wages and benefits during the time West is attending the Northcentral Technical College police academy.
West would have to repay the city its costs if he left its employment within three years.
The consent agenda includes a resolution that would utilize $25,000 from the remaining balances in the Entrepreneur and Facade Grant programs to match a Suick Foundation grant received by the Langlade County Economic Development Corporation for a new effort identified as the Suick Economic Assistance Rewards Creating Hope (SEARCH) program for the downtown business corridor.
Grants would be provided to eligible downtown businesses based on a 50/50 matching criteria for a maximum amount of up to $5,000 in grant funds for a $10,000 project.
The current Façade Grant balance is $5,655.76, while the Entrepreneur Grant program balance is $23,633.98. As the request is for $25,000, the city would still maintain a balance in its programs of about $4,000, which would be used for the downtown mural program.
