Joseph B. Czarnecki, of Antigo, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was 77 years old.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Joseph and Amelia (Baginski) Czarnecki.
Joe was raised in Chicago where he graduated from Austin High School and attended Wright Junior College.
He worked in Chicago at Miehle-Goss-Dexter Printing Company as a machinist for 10 years.
After moving to Antigo, he delivered fuel for Langlade Oil and operated a Shell gas station at Fourth and Superior. For 10 years, he worked for Southside Tire as a route salesman. He worked as a potato inspector and drove truck for Wausau Carriers and Prince Brothers Trucking.
Joe served as an alderman on the Antigo City Council.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-69 having fought in the Vietnam War. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1971-91, and he was called into active duty during the Persian Gulf War.
He was a member of the Timberwolves Detachment of The Marine Corps League, Antigo, past commander and member of the Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion Post 3, Antigo, the Langlade County Voiture 1204, 40 et 8 in Antigo. He was past exalted ruler and member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 662, Antigo, member of the Loyal Order of Moose River Park Lodge #2578, River Park, Illinois, and the Ackley Swampers Hunting Club.
Survivors include five sisters, Helen Wanca, Antigo, Jean Chatman, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, Irene Mitchell, Glendale, Illinois, Dorothy (Lon) Zea, Upton, Kentucky, abd Joan (Joe) Lamantia, Davis, Illinois; and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law, Paul Wanca, Elery Chatman and Robert Mitchell; and one niece.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Antigo veterans will conduct military honors at the funeral home following services.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with the Elks Lodge of Sorrow conducted at 6:30 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Langlade County Voiture 1204, 40 et 8 and the Timberwolves Detachment 354 of the Marine Corps League will assemble at the funeral home at 5 p.m.
Interment of his urn will take place at a later date at Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, Union Grove, Wisconsin.
