Richard ”Dick” Estreen, age 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital due to COVID pneumonia.
Dick was born on July 4, 1943, in Wabeno to the late Abraham Estreen and Mary (Burkhart) Bradle.
A graduate of Wabeno High School, Dick went on to graduate from UW Stevens Point with a degree in teaching.
On Aug. 7, 1965, Dick was united in marriage to Carol Koch at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wabeno. She survives. The couple lived in Fond du Lac from 1965-67, where Dick taught math and chemistry. They later moved to the town of Polar where they farmed dairy and beef cattle, and Dick continued to teach for an additional year in Laona.
Thereafter, Dick became a full-time farmer owning and operating Estreen Farms until the present day. During the early years of farming, Dick and Carol enjoyed having and showing horses. Dick excelled in speed and action events.
Dick was a member of Ss. Mary & Hyacinth’s Catholic Church where he ushered. As a boy, Dick served as an altar boy. He was also a member of Monsignor Conrad Saile Council 1002 Knights of Columbus.
Dick was an avid pool player, playing on various teams including Karcz’s Melody Mill and Nick’s Tap. He enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was full of laughter and jokes. He loved to buy trucks, cars and tractors, and reveled in keeping them clean and shiny.
Dick was a faithful, good-hearted, kind and generous man. He was a supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Unbound Program, a Catholic charitable organization to support children in need.
Dick was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be missed beyond measure. His most cherished earthly relationship was one with his wife and best friend, Carol. The little things meant the most to them, including their longstanding tradition that began in 1965, a car ride to Stevens Point for pizza at Mickey’s.
In addition to his wife, Carol, survivors include a daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Belott of Bryant; a son, Michael (Jolene) Estreen of Antigo; four grandchildren, Tyler (fiancé Amber Pavek) Belott of Lily, Laurissa Belott (significant other Jesse Jankowksi) a student at Edgewater University in Madison, and Leland and Olive Estreen of Antigo; two sisters, Patricia Kadubek of Gleason and Sandra Kadubek of Armstrong Creek; three brothers, Todd Estreen of Seymour, Gerry (Melissa) Estreen of Seymour and Gregg (Chris) Estreen of Pulaski; and many nieces and nephews.
