Senior center asks for financial help to buy building
To the editor,
The Senior Center of Langlade County has been in operation for six short years.
We have grown to over 300 members but still have reached only a small percentage of the 6,500 seniors in Langlade County.
A few citizens, the city and county governments generously gave us a start and a place to meet. We are asking the citizens and businesses of the community to help us keep it going and growing.
We are here to provide a place for entertainment, education and fellowship, as well as to help those who suffer from separation and loneliness, or just need “someone to talk to.”
Our weekly schedule, Monday through Friday, consists of games. puzzles, cards, live music, movies and much more.
Our staff and board members work strictly volunteer. They have worked tirelessly for thousands of hours paying their own mileage and expenses and have made the center a success.
We simply need more space to grow and provide more services to the 6,500 seniors in Langlade County.
A fund drive has been set up to purchase the former Game On building on Edison Street to greatly expand the operations of the senior center. The cost of the building is $195,000.
A fund drive for $195,000 is a lot for a fund drive, but we are determined not to leave a mortgage payment for those who follow us later as we are all getting older.
The members have been asked to respond to the need as they are able, and they have done so.
If the community helps us in this endeavor, we can get this done. It will be good for the seniors and for the community. That is why we are asking for your help.
Please help to make it bigger and better and reach the many seniors that need the services we provide.
We are a non-stock corporation owned by the membership. We are also certified as tax deductible.
We must close the drive by mid December.
Gifts can be mailed to the center at P.O. Box 104, Antigo WI 54409 or deposited directly with CoVantage Credit Union to a building fund set up for that purpose. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
