Police report that they arrested a 44-year old Elcho man for his sixth count of OWI on the city’s north side.
Antigo police said today that an Elcho woman would be cited for inattentive driving after she evidently fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in what could have been a serious accident if she had not just missed a utility pole at the intersection of Neva Road and Badger Avenue.

The American Legion Post #3 of Antigo and Post #377 of Elcho-Summit Lake celebrated the 79th birthday of the forming of the American Legion in grand style Saturday evening.
Three days before the “official” St. Patrick’s Day, Pickerel folks with some Antigo recruits celebrated in fine style Saturday. The annual parade along Highway DD to Highway 55 through downtown drew an excellent contingent of entries and almost all of them had an Irish theme.

The old Chicago and Northwestern Railway trestle that crossed the Wolf River south of the bridge in Langlade, a landmark for the past 66 years, was swept away by an ice dam.
The remodeling of the offices of the register of deeds and register in probate in the courthouse has been completed. The project included installation of new paneling and ceilings.
75 years agoMarch 15, 1948Tomorrow marks the opening of WATK radio station, an operation that will be part of the Antigo Daily Journal. It will go on the air at 7 p.m. March 16.
The Antigo Fire Department was called to the Earl Heller home, 220 East Fifth Ave., Sunday when sparks from the chimney lighted up the roof. Action was quick and damage limited to about $50.
The Chicago and Northwestern announced that it would operate the Flambeau again this summer season starting on Memorial Day. It will make connections between Chicago and Ironwood and Watersmeet bringing weekend visitors to the north.
