The Antigo Red Robins boys bowling team has qualfied for the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club State Championships for the second time in three years, after defeating Athens-Edgar Sunday at North Star Lanes. For the second time in three seasons, the Antigo Red Robins boys bowling team is State bound.

Sunday, the boys varsity team hosted Athens-Edgar at Antigo’s North Star Lanes and its victory clinched a State spot from District 9.

Antigo now advances to the Division Two Wisconsin High School Bowling State Championship Meet, set for March 5-7 at the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay.

The State Meet is split into singles and team events, with the singles portion taking place on Friday night, March 5, with finals set for Sunday the 7th.

Will Kubeny and Jack Steger of Antigo both qualified for the singles portion. The top five bowlers from singles will advance to the finals.

Singles bowlers will begin competition at 4:30 p.m. on Friday the 5th.

The team event is split between all three days, with championship rounds held on Sunday the 7th.

The top team from each of three divisions move on to Sunday’s final.

Against Athens-Edgar, the Robins averaged a score of 196, with a high game of 248.

Leading bowlers were Alec Knapkavage, along with Steger and Kubeny.

The team is led by three seniors, in Kubeny, Austin Schedlbauer and Kalsin Toth.

Antigo won the Division Two State championship in its most recent State appearance in 2019.

The Antigo junior varsity boys bowlers also had competition on Sunday, bowling amongst themsleves and averaging a 121, with a high game of 146.

Matt Maus, Brayden Vielbaum and Bracy Rickert were the top three JV bowlers on a squad that features one senior, in Matt Maus.
