The 75th season of the Badger Amateur Baseball Association (BABA) is here, after a number of week one games were contested throughout the area.
Included in the league’s 75th edition is the Antigo Polar Bears, who will call Kretz Park home this season, while competing in the league’s Northern Division.
Sunday, the Polar Bears opened their campaign on the road, taking on Birnamwood and falling by a final score of 8-1.
Cole Kuenzli took the loss for Antigo, allowing eight runs on seven hits through two innings of work. He walked three and struck out one.
The Polar Bears did bang out 11 hits in the contest, despite being able to plate just a lone run. Dylan Schielke and Hunter Kirsch led the way with three hits each. Ben Sobczak had two, while Kuenzli ripped a double.
Birnamwood had 12 hits in the game, with Zach Bembenek and Corey Krull leading things with three each. Krull doubled twice, while Bembenek had one two-bagger.
Brady Erickson and Jared Klein added a pair of hits each, including a double from Klein.
Bembenek was the winning pitcher, allowing a run over five innings. He walked two and struck out five.
Antigo will play its home opener this Sunday, hosting Aniwa in a 1:30 p.m. first pitch.
