The Elcho Hornets were represented by Danny Novak at Tuesday’s WIAA Division Three Sectional Meet, held at the Hunter’s Glen course in Crivitz.
And although Novak failed to advance, ending his day with a 128, it was a memorable finish to the career of the Elcho senior.
With the top two teams advancing to State and the top three individuals not part of a qualifying team moving on, it was Marathon and Newman Catholic taking the team spots, while Peyton Schuelke of Manawa, Kaiden Bailey of Saint Thomas Aquinas and Wisconsin Valley Lutheran’s Christian Johnson claiming the individual qualifiers.
The trio tied for sectional champion honors, as all shot a round of 79, three strokes better than Ben Robbins of Marathon and Wisconsin Valley Lutheran’s Ethan Mehlberg.
Marathon’s first place team total was a 343, with Newman Catholic two strokes back at 345.
A total of 12 teams competed. Manawa was third with a 366, with Bonduel and Coleman rounding out the top five.
