A good start kept things competitive Monday, but in the end the White Lake boys basketball team suffered a 68-27 home loss to Northland Lutheran.

“We started off the game very strong and kept it competitive,” head coach Micah Strong said. “Northland Lutheran started out with a full court press, which our boys were able to beat better than any game previously this year. We are still having struggles with turnovers, however they are improving every game.”

Northland Lutheran improved to a perfect 5-0 in the Central Wisconsin North Conference and 7-3 overall, as it continues to battle with 4-0 Manawa for the top spot

The Wildcats’ attack saw four players in double figures led by Andrew Obledner’s 16 points. Andrew Moon had 15, Justin Pahl contributed 11 and Karsten Zahrt ended with 10 points.

Strong was happy with several part of his team’s offense, include the play of his primary ball handlers.

“Brody Kreciak and Blake Lambert are beginning to slow down enough to run the offense which will make us a lot more competitive,” he said.

Jake Jarmuz led the team in scoring with 14 points, including a number of underneath baskets.

“Jarmuz continues to be a consistent big man that we can count on to get the ball to the basket and always puts up a good defensive game,” Strong explained.

Lambert added five points to the White Lake scorebook, while Kreciak and Bryar Wegner both had four points, which included a three from Wegner, the lone outside basket of the night for the Lakers.

While White Lake remains winless at 0-8, 0-5 in the CWC North, the team is beginning to show some promise.

“I was impressed with the team’s attitude and energy throughout the game,” Strong added. “They didn’t quit no matter what the score was on the board, they kept their heads up and they gave it their all.”

The Lakers will next host Gresham on Thursday.
