The White Lake girls basketball team experienced a bumpy start to the season, taking a 64-11 loss at Lena on Thursday.
Senior leader Katrina Pranke scored the 11 Laker points, all in the first half. Natalie McNurlen led a balanced Lena attack, her 14 points tops among 11 players finding the bucket.
Following her first outing, White Lake coach Cassidy Strobl shouted out budding point guards Amelia Aleman and Morgan Jarmuz for brave play in a new position.
“Amelia and Morgan stepped up to be our main point guards, which is a new position for both of them,” Strobl said. “We had seven girls play and were working through some stage fright as it was our first game of the season. With a new head coach and a few new girls this year, we are working on our team chemistry and improving our skills.”
The Lady Lakers are on the road again tonight, paying a visit to Northland Lutheran at 7:15. The team then will be gearing up for the home opener, Friday Dec. 3 hosting Tigerton.
