Elli Preboski, left, and Elli Stank have been chosen as special qualifiers for the WIAA Division One Girls State Tennis Meet in Lake Geneva after a 10-1 regular season.  The duo will open play Thursday at 9 a.m.

It turns out the Antigo Red Robins girls tennis team’s season is not done after all.

The WIAA released their special qualifiers for the Division One State Meet Monday and included is the Robins’ No. 2 doubles team of senior Ellie Preboski and sophomore Elli Stank.

Preboski and Stank enjoyed an outstanding season, going undefeated in Great Northern Conference play and helping their team to the GNC title. The duo then swept through the subsectional round before falling in the championship match at the Wausau West sectional, earning a second place finish.

With only the champions in Flight 2 guaranteed a spot at state, the WIAA’s State Seeding Committee then chooses a maximum of 16 additional singles players and doubles teams who were eliminated earlier in the tournament series. One must be chosen from each sectional.

Preboski and Stank got that call and will now play Thursday afternoon at the Lake Geneva Tennis Club against Deidre Martin and Jenna Hausman, a senior duo from Tomah with a 9-4 overall record. Preboski and Stank are 10-1, and hold an outstanding 23-2 record over the past two seasons..

The winner will advance to the second round and play Friday at 9 a.m.

The State Girls Tennis Tournament runs through Saturday.
