The Elcho-White Lake Wolverines were winners for the first time this season on Thursday night, blasting Oneida Nation-Green Bay New Lutheran 34-0 in a game played in White Lake.
The Wolverines took control early, scoring three times in the first quarter.
Included was a pair of rushing touchdowns by Keegan Klingler, coming from one and two yards away. Seth Schuett added a 22-yard scamper.
The lone second quarter scoring came courtesy of a big play by the Wolverines, as Chase Novak tore off a 62-yard touchdown run, part of a 172 yard rushing effort by the senior quarterback.
Freshman Nick Blawat saw playing time as well, throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jake Jarmuz for the game’s only points of the second half.
As a team, the Wolverines ran for 341 yards on the ground and combined that with a stout defense to even its season record at 1-1.
Klingler added 95 yards rushing, Brandon Siemers and Schuett both ended the night with 32, while Blake Lambert and Carter Holbrook each contributed five.
Oneida Nation-Green Bay New Lutheran fell to 0-2.
It was a nice bounce back win for Elcho-White Lake, after losing its opener.
“The week after the tough loss to Gibraltar the gentlemen put everything they had in our short week of practice,” head coach Greg Kizirian said.
Next up for the Wolverines is a road trip to Gillett this Friday night. Elcho-White Lake then opens MONLPC-West Conference play with a Sept. 16 game in Elcho against Suring.
